Independent Power Producer
Allentown, PA-based independent power producer operating the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, a 2,500 MW nuclear plant in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Talen emerged from bankruptcy in 2023 and has since signed one of the largest nuclear power purchase agreements in U.S. history: 1,920 MW to Amazon Web Services through 2042.
Susquehanna Nuclear Plant
The Susquehanna Steam Electric Station sits in Salem Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The plant operates two boiling water reactors. Unit 1 carries a net capacity of approximately 1,257 MWe. Unit 2 adds approximately 1,270 MWe, bringing the total to roughly 2,500 MW of baseload carbon-free generation.
Susquehanna is one of the largest nuclear plants in the PJM Interconnection footprint. Its location in northeastern Pennsylvania places it close to major load centers in the Northeast and gives it direct relevance to Amazon's data center buildout in the region.
Amazon Nuclear PPA
Talen signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Amazon to supply 1,920 MW of carbon-free nuclear electricity from Susquehanna to Amazon Web Services data centers in Pennsylvania. Full delivery is targeted no later than 2032, with the potential for an accelerated timeline. The agreement runs through 2042 with extension options.
Among the largest nuclear-to-data-center PPAs in the US. Provides Talen long-term revenue visibility tied to Amazon's AI demand in the Northeast. Separately, Talen extended Brandon Shores and H.A. Wagner coal plants in Maryland through May 2029 — originally scheduled for 2025 retirement — citing grid reliability needs from surging data center demand in PJM.
