Juno Beach, FL-based parent of Florida Power and Light and NextEra Energy Resources, the largest generator of wind and solar power in the United States. FPL serves one of the fastest-growing data center markets in the country. NextEra Resources has approximately 6 GW of clean energy in operation or contracted with Google and Meta, and is targeting 15 to 30 GW of new capacity to serve data center demand by 2035.
Florida Power and Light
Florida Power and Light is NextEra's regulated utility subsidiary and the largest electric utility in Florida. FPL serves approximately 5.8 million customer accounts, covering most of the state. Florida's data center market has grown rapidly, supported by low land costs, available power capacity, and a business-friendly regulatory environment.
FPL had 4.8 GW of operational solar capacity across 66 facilities as of early 2024. The company's "30-by-30" plan targets 30 million solar panels installed by 2030, representing more than 11 GW of solar generation. FPL has plans for approximately 21 GW of solar generation and is on pace to reach 93 GW of solar and 50 GW of storage by 2045.
Data Center Strategy
NextEra Energy Resources has approximately 6 GW of clean energy in operation or contracted with Google and Meta Platforms. The company partnered with Google Cloud to develop multiple new gigawatt-scale data center campuses. NextEra's CEO has stated a goal to add between 15 and 30 GW of new generation capacity by 2035 specifically to meet U.S. data center demand.
Of the 15 GW target, ~6 GW will come from new gas-fired resources:
The remaining 9 GW target comes from solar, wind, and storage.
