Equinix operates more than 280 data centers across 35 countries and 77 metropolitan areas. Total developable capacity, including retail colocation and xScale facilities, is approximately 3 GW. The company has set a goal to double total data center capacity by 2029. As of late 2025, the global portfolio included 371,400 cabinets with 75-81% utilization depending on region.

New facilities opening in 2026 include locations in Lagos, Hong Kong, Silicon Valley, Madrid, Istanbul, and Sao Paulo. The company plans to add 900 MW of capacity in high-demand markets including Amsterdam, London, Chicago, Toronto, and Johannesburg.

xScale is Equinix's dedicated program for hyperscale and AI customers requiring large-scale, high-density deployments that exceed standard retail colocation footprints. As of November 2025, more than 415 MW had been leased through the xScale program across 21 operational facilities in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas.

In October 2024, Equinix announced a joint venture with GIC and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to raise more than $15 billion in capital. The JV targets multi-hundred-megawatt campuses in the U.S. and is projected to nearly triple total xScale investment capacity. Equinix typically holds a 25% equity interest in these joint ventures.
